29 CFR 1910.243(b)(2): Airhose and hose connections used for conducting compressed air to utilization equipment was not designed for the pressure and service to which they were subjected. On or about May 15, 2023, throughout the facility, the employer did not use air hose connections designed for the pressure used, exposing employees to struck-by hazards in the following instances: a) Located on the PEXTO Machine, Department #3 Can Department, there was an air hose that was used in part to supply air to a pneumatic ON/OFF control operation. The air hose was attached to the hose fitting by a worm drive type hose clamp which was not designed for use on an air hose, thereby exposing the employees to the whipping action of the hose. b) Located on the Bliss Press Machine #5, Department #3 in the Press Area, the pneumatic air hose had a worm-driven hose clamp attached to its hose fitting that was not designed to be used on an air hose, thereby exposing the employees to the whipping action of the air hose if the clamp were to come off. c) Located on the Maru32 Machine, Department #7 Screw Machine Building, there was an air hose used to clean off equipment. This hose was attached to a hose fitting which was secured by a worm-driven hose clamp which was not designed for use on an air hose, thereby exposing the employees to the whipping action of the hose. d) Located behind the Makino a51 NX machine, Department #7 Screw Machine Building, there was an air hose connected to the air inlet valve that had a worm-driven hose clamp attached to its air hose that was not designed to be used on an air hose, thereby exposing the employees to the whipping action of the air hose if the clamp were to come off. e) Located in the center wall behind the Sorting Machine, Department #7 Screw Machine Building, there was an air hose used to clean off equipment. This hose was attached to a hose fitting which was secured by a worm-driven hose clamp which was not designed for use on an air hose, thereby exposing the employees to the whipping action of the hose if the clamp were to come off.
