The employer's electrical equipment, wiring methods, and installations of equipment inside the hazardous (classified) location: Ammonia Compressors/Engine room are not intrinsically safe, or approved for the hazardous location: 29 CFR 1910.307(c): Equipment, wiring methods, and installations of equipment in hazardous (classified) locations were not intrinsically safe, or approved for the hazardous (classified) location, or safe for the hazardous (classified) location: A recent example of this occurred on 10/25/11, when: a) In the Ammonia Compressors/Engine room, electrical equipment and wiring such as, but not limited to: 480 volts Electrical Panels and Disconnect Switches for Compressors, 240 Volts Vault Elec.Rm Panel #3/Disconnect Switch and Ice Builder Electrical Panel/Disconnect Switch were not approved for Class I Division 2 location. To abate this violation, the employer shall have in this room an independent mechanical ventilation system operating according to ANSI/IIAR 2-1999, Section 6.2.3.1 or 6.2.3.2. Pursuant to 29 CFR 1903.19(d), the employer must submit documents describing the steps it is taking to ensure compliance, within 30 days of the date it receives this citation.
