29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc.: a) On or about June 26, 2023, at a workplace located at 5843 Tower Drive, Florence, Wisconsin in the Maintenance Shop; the Startrite H225 horizontal band saw was not equipped with adjustable guards on the unused portion of the saw blade exposing employees to cutting and/or shear hazards. b) On or about June 26, 2023, at a workplace located at 5843 Tower Drive, Florence, Wisconsin in the Maintenance Shop; the JET drill press was not equipped with an adjustable chuck guard to prevent employee exposure to entanglement hazards. c) On or about July 5, 2023, at a workplace located at 5843 Tower Drive, Florence, Wisconsin in the Truck Shop; the Ellis variable speed drill press was not equipped with an adjustable chuck guard to prevent employee exposure to entanglement hazards.
