Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 008 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.219(e)(1)(i): Where both runs of horizontal belts are seven (7) feet or less from the floor level, the guard shall extend to at least fifteen (15) inches above the belt or to a standard height, except that where both runs of a horizontal belt are 42 inches or less from the floor, the belt shall be fully enclosed in accordance with paragraphs (m) and (o) of this section. a. On the Bin 24 discharge, there was an 16 1/2 inch by 25 inch opening which had an unguarded opening to a belt and pulley which was located 12 inches off the floor thereby exposing employees to a caught-in hazard. b. At the New Build Bin 24, there was a 17 inch by 30 inch opening in the guard which exposed employees to a caught in hazard from the unguarded belt and pulley. c. At the old bin 48 motor, there was an 8 inch by 30 inch opening in the guard which exposed employees to a caught in hazard from the unguarded belt and pulley. d. In the dump pit area, there was a dust collector which was not properly guarded over the belt and pulley thereby exposing employees to a caught-in hazard. e. In the warehouse, there was a stand up air compressor used in the grain elevator which had an unguarded belt and pulley on top of the air compressor thereby exposing employees to a caught in hazard.
