29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1): Employers shall provide employees with effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment, and whenever a new chemical hazard the employees have not previously been trained about is introduced into their work area. Information and training may be designed to cover categories of hazards (e.g., flammability, carcinogenicity) or specific chemicals. Chemical-specific information must always be available through labels and safety data sheets: At a facility located at 4315 Transport Way in Weston, WI; the employer did not provide employees with effective information and training on the hazardous chemicals in their work areas. Employees were not provided information and training on the requirements of the hazard communication program, operations where hazardous chemicals were present, location and availability of SDS, the physical/health hazards of the chemicals they worked with, the methods employees could use to detect the presence of hazardous chemicals, nor the measures or procedures they could use to protect themselves from exposure. Employees were working with hazardous chemicals in their work areas including, but not limited to drying agents, caustic soda, aluminum brightener, power wash detergent, and other industrial cleaning chemicals.
