29 CFR 1910.212(a)(5):Fan blade guards, where the periphery of the blades was less than seven feet above the floor or working level, had openings larger than one half inch: (a)Protective Coating Specialists, Inc. at 1350 7th Street Northwest, Huron, SD 57350: On or about and at times prior to November 22, 2023, the employer did not ensure that employees performing work in the vicinity of the Polarcool Evaporative Cooler on the Main Line were protected from caught-in hazards in that the fan blade of the cooler was not guarded in a manner that limit openings to no larger than one half inch. The exhaust end of the fan was guarded with chicken wire with openings of approximately one inch that was not uniformly secured on the exterior of the opening creating larger gaps. This condition exposed employees to caught-in hazards. (b)Protective Coating Specialists, Inc. at 1350 7th Street Northwest, Huron, SD 57350: On or about and at times prior to November 22, 2023, the employer did not ensure that employees performing work in the vicinity of the Polarcool Evaporative Cooler on the South Line were protected from caught-in hazards in that the fan blade of the cooler were not guarded that limit openings to no larger than one half inch. The intake end of the fan was not guarded. This condition exposed employees to caught-in hazards.
