29 CFR 1910.219(c)(4)(i): Projecting shaft ends shall present a smooth edge and end and shall not project more than one-half the diameter of the shaft unless guarded by nonrotating caps or safety sleeves. At an establishment located at N4056 Vine Road, in Freedom, Wisconsin, (a) On or about May 7, 2024, in the Freedom 1 Area on Line 1 following the Almac Mixer, a projecting shaft with collar clamp on the outfeed conveyor used to pinch the cheese to length was not smooth or guarded by a nonrotating cap or safety sleeve exposing employees to entanglement hazards. (b) On or about May 21, 2024, in the North Addition, the Accumulation Conveyor for Line 6B had a projecting shaft with screw sets which was not smooth or guarded by a nonrotating cap or safety sleeve exposing employees to entanglement hazards. BelGioioso Cheese, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard (29 CFR 1910.219(c)(4)(i)), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1708909, citation number 1, item number 3 and was affirmed as a final order on April 18, 2024, with respect to a workplace located at 5911 County Road NN, Denmark, Wisconsin.
