29 CFR 1910.219(d)(1): Pulleys with parts seven feet or less from the floor or work platform were not guarded in accordance with the requirements specified in 29 CFR 1910.219(m) and (o): (a) Wardwell 16-Carrier Braiding Machines 1 through 34 - The motor pulleys, with bottom height ranging from 13.5 inches to 23 inches above the floor, and head pulleys, ranging from 42.5 to 48 inches above the floor, at the right side of each Wardwell 16-carrier braider, did not have complete guarding in that the existing guards did not cover the pulleys on the inner sides nor on the head pulleys' periphery near the clutch lever on each machine. In addition, on machines 10, 18, 19, 20, 21, and 22, the existing guards did not cover the motor pulleys on the outer sides, and on machines 11, 12, 14, 15, 29, 33, and 34, the existing guards did not cover the periphery of the motor nor head pulleys, exposing employees to caught-in and entanglement hazards, on or about April 14, 2022. (b) Wardwell 16-Carrier Braiding Machines 2, 8, 10, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, and 25 - The pulleys connected to the take up spool on each machine did not have adequate guarding, in that the top pulley, at waist height on each machine, had guarding that did not cover the inner side and back periphery of the pulley, and the bottom pulley, at knee height on each machine, had no guarding, exposing employees to caught-in and entanglement hazards, on or about April 14, 2022. Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and state employees and their representatives were informed of this abatement.
