29 CFR 1910.334(a)(2)(i): Portable cord and plug connected equipment and flexible cord sets (extension cords) are not visually inspected before use on any shift for external defects (such as loose parts, deformed and missing pins, or damage to outer jacket or insulation) and for evidence of possible internal damage (such as pinched or crushed outer jacket): Employees using the Millermatic 252 MIG welder are exposed to electrical shock and burns due to a damaged cord and the employer fails to ensure that the portable cord and plug connected equipment is visually inspected before use. To abate this violation, the employer must ensure that all portable cord and plug equipment is visually inspected for external defects before use. Pursuant to 29 CFR 1903.19, the employer must submit documents describing the steps it is taking to ensure compliance, including a copy of site-specific program detailing the procedures used to ensure compliance and training of employees.
