Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:03/11/09 Location:West Side of Hotel Equipment:Homemade Lift, #WO 1173 Condition:Employees were exposed to serious injuries or death since a homemade lift system's hoistway doors were not protected with electric interlocks. (b)Date of Violation:03/11/09 Location:West Side of Hotel Equipment:Homemade Lift, #WO 1173 Condition:Employees were exposed to serious injuries or death since a homemade lift system's hoistway enclosure and doors were not constructed of fire resistant material. (c)Date of Violation:03/11/09 Location:West Side of Hotel Equipment:Homemade Lift, #WO 1173 Condition:Employees were exposed to serious injuries or death since a homemade lift utilized to lift persons lacked overlimit travel protection switches. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to meet standards as found in American National Standard/American Society of Mechanical Engineers Code known as ANSI 17.1-1971,1993; Safety Code for Elevators, Dumbwaiters, Escalators, and Moving Walks: Specifically including but not limited to: Construction of Hoistways and Hoistway Enclosures, Protection of Hoistway LandingOpenings, Hoistway -Door Locking Devices, Car Door or Gate Electric Contacts, Hoistway Access Switches, and Elevator Parking Devices, Capacity Plate, Manufacturer Data Plate, Suspension Means, Operating Devices and Control Equipment.
