Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to sprains, strains, or fractures from a trip and fall into a floor hole or pit: In the following instances floor holes or pits were not guarded to prevent employees from tripping and/or falling: a)Barn 6 - The floor at the rear of the barn contained a pit for manure removal. b)Barn 11 - The floor at the rear of the barn contained a pit for manure removal. c)Barn 52 - The floor at the rear of the barn contained a pit for manure removal. d)Barn 57 - The floor at the rear of the barn contained a pit for manure removal. e)Barn 61 - The floor at the rear of the barn contained a pit for manure removal. f)Barn 64 - The floor at the rear of the barn contained a pit for manure removal. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install floor hole covers.
