29 CFR 1926.859(g):During demolition, continuing inspections by a competent person were not made as the work progressed to detect hazards resulting from weakened or deteriorated floors, or walls, or loosened material. Employees were also permitted to work where such hazards existed without being corrected by shoring, bracing, or other effective means. a) On or about December 23, 2024, at a worksite located at 1113 V Street NW, Washington, DC, the employer did not have a competent person at the location that could recognize potential hazards associated with demolition and knowledge to potentially abate those conditions such as the lack of bracing, weaking of floors or what may be needed if employees are working within the compromised structure. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the Certification of Corrective Action Worksheet), in addition, documentation demonstrating the abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include but is not limited to evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.
