Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 007 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.217(f)(2) :Instruction to operators. The employer shall train and instruct the operator in the safe method of work before starting work on any operation covered by this section. The employer shall ensure by adequate supervision that correct operating procedures are being followed. a) On or about July 11, 2022, the employer did not provide effective training and instruction for the operator of the 500-ton Bliss press, 200-ton Minster 1 press, and the 300-ton Minster 2 press to ensure a safe method of work in that the operator did properly inspect the press prior to operating. The operator did not recognize damage to the electrical cord of the operation pedestal of the 500-ton Bliss Press, damage to the lights and buttons of the operation pedestal and the yellow reset switch on the back of the 200-ton Minster 1 press, and damage to the yellow control button on the operation pedestal of the 300-ton Minster 2 press. b) On or about July 11, 2022, the employer did not provide effective training and instruction for the operator of the 500-ton Komatsu press to ensure a safe method of work in that the operator did not properly inspect the press prior to operating. The operator did not recognize damage to the electrical wiring, and damage to the yellow control button on the operation pedestal of the 500-ton Komatsu press. c) On or about July 11, 2022, the employer did not provide effective training and instruction for the operator of the 300-ton Niagara press to ensure a safe method of work in that the operator did not properly inspect the press prior to operating. The operator did not recognize inadequate guarding on the 300-ton Niagara press. d) On or about July 11, 2022, the employer did not provide effective training and instruction for the operator of the 1000-ton Verson press to ensure a safe method of work in that the operator did not properly inspect the press prior to operating. The operator did not recognize damage to the electrical wiring and damage to the yellow control button on the operation pedestal of the 1000-ton Verson.
