29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a. 200 S. First St., Elizabeth, NJ - The employer did not ensure that guarding on hydraulic shears protected employees from harm or injury. An employee operating Strip Technology, Inc., hydraulic shears operated the equipment where the point of operation guard remained in the up position after the employee pressed the control pedal while holding materials to be cut, with both hands in close proximity of the cutting blades. Violation observed on or about February 18, 2022 b. 200 S. First St., Elizabeth, NJ - The employer did not ensure that guarding on hydraulic shears protected employees from harm or injury. An employee operating JMC Recycling Systems, LTD, Model 640 Shear, hydraulic shears, operated the equipment where the point of operation guard remained in the up position and the equipment ran continuously without the use of a control pedal or other means of guarding.
