Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 007 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to freight elevators that were not provided with safety devices to stop a free fall in the event of a power loss, or a mechanical failure of the lifting and lowering devices. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install safeties in accordance with ANSI A17.1, Section 205, type A, B, or C.
