29 CFR 1910.184(e)(3)(iii): A thorough inspection of alloy steel chain slings was not performed by a competent person designated by the employer, and did not include a thorough inspection for wear, defective welds, deformation and increase in length. Where such defects or deterioration were present, the sling was not immediately removed from service: a/ J&L Used Auto Parts/Elizabeth NJ Site. Junk Yard: Heavy duty metal link chain used as a sling was not thoroughly inspected by a competent person to ensure employee(s) protection during lifting operations. Observed on/or about 5/9/2013.
