29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1): The employer did not provide employees with effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment, and whenever a new chemical hazard the employees have not previously been trained about was introduced into their work area. Information and training was not designed to cover categories of hazards (e.g., flammability, carcinogenicity) or specific chemicals. Chemical-specific information was not available through labels and safety data sheets: a) 3 Terminal Road, New Brunswick, NJ - Tablet Press/Encapsulation Department and Warehouse Employees in the Encapsulations Department worked with explosive ingredients, such as but not limited to powdered mixtures containing whey protein concentrate, which accumulated on the floors and on machine surfaces during the encapsulation process. The employer did not provide effective information and training pertaining to the physical hazards of the accumulating dusts. Dusts collected in the area had explosion severities ranging from 0.05 to 1.81 and Kst values ranging from 2.29 to 22.72. Employees in the Warehouse also worked with hazardous chemicals, such as but not limited to caustic soda micropearls containing sodium hydroxide (98%) to clean coating pans, without being provided effective hazard communication information and training. Condition observed on or about 3/15/2019. WRITTEN ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED PURSUANT TO 29 CFR 1903.19.
