29 CFR 1910.134(d)(3)(i)(B)(1): The employer did not select a respirator for employee use that maintained the employee's exposure to the hazardous substance, when measured outside the respirator, at or below the maximum use concentration: a) Exigo Metal Works/Hillside, NJ - Production Area: An employee wearing a half face (3M) air purifying respirator and spraying a mixture containing Barium Sulfate was exposed to Barium Sulfate at a level of 62 milligrams of substance per cubic meter of air (mg/m3) as an 8 hour Time Weighted Average (TWA). This exposure exceeded the Permissible Exposure Limit of 5 mg/m3 by 12.4 times. This exposure also exceeded the 50 mg/m3 Maximum Use Concentration (MUC) of the employee's half face air-purifying respirator by 1.2 times. Condition observed on or about June 28, 2016.
