Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 006A Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc. a. In the D house, the guard to the tripper wheel was not in place where the conveyor rotated thereby exposing employees to a caught-in hazard. b. In the C House on the south side of the building, there was a 1 1/2 inch opening in the side of the fan thereby exposing employees to a conntact hazard. c. In the C House, there was a 9 1/2 inch by a 9 inch opening in the guard to the head pulley and conveyor thereby exposing employees to a caught-in hazard.
