29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a. Press Area - On or about February 28, 2022, employees were operating a series of pneumatic and hydraulic paver presses without guarding, this includes the hazards associated with the actual press, the trolly and the tilt table which then rotates upward creating a pinch point, exposing employees to a caught in and a struck by hazard. b. Maintenance Area - On or about February 28, 2022, employees were operating an Mark II vertical band saw model 8-Mark-II, Serial number 828623, which was not guarded to prevent employee injuries. c. Press Area - On or about February 28, 2022, employees working on the mezzanine of the presses were exposed to unguarded augers from the press fill and batch hoppers. The guards are typically partially kept open, exposing employees to a caught in hazard. Abatement certification and documentation required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, the date and method of abatement, and state that employees and their representatives were informed of this abatement. Abatement documentation shall include documents demonstrating that abatement is complete, such as evidence of the purchase or repair of equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement or other written records.
