Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 006 Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.1417(o)(3)(i): The weight of the load must be determined from a source recognized by the industry (such as the load's manufacturer), or by a calculation method recognized by the industry (such as calculating a steel beam from measured dimensions and a known per foot weight), or by other equally reliable means. In addition, when requested by the operator, this information must be provided to the operator prior to the lift; or a. Located at the site, there were employees removing 6 foot by 10 foot concrete slabs and a 60 foot, 3 inch I-beam from a bridge with a 1975 Bucyrus Erie 60 ton lattice boom crawler crane, model 30B, serial number 134548. The weight of the load was not provided to the crane operator from the demolition plan that was created, thereby exposing the employees to the hazards associated with the operations of cranes and the materials being hoisted.
