Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:On or About 01/26/10 Location:Battery Shop Condition:A wall-mounted emergency eyewash station was not designed to provide 15 minutes of hands-free, continuous flushing for both eyes where an employee added water to aircraft batteries containing electrolyte solution, a corrosive. (b)Date of Violation:On or About 01/28/10 Location:Gear Shop Condition:A wall-mounted emergency eyewash station was not designed to provide 15 minutes of hands-free, continuous flushing for both eyes where employees performed electroplating using chromic acid and nickel acid, both corrosives. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to install an emergency eyewash in accordance with the requirements of American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z358.1-2009, "Emergency Eyewash and Shower Equipment."
