Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire hazards: (a)Pinneo Feedlot, Ltd. Liability Company at 32295 Highway 34, Brush, CO 80723: On or before 09/19/06, the employer did not ensure that exit routes in the Brush mill were properly identified and operational: 1)The back door was missing an exit sign; 2)The back door had a bolt and latch type handle, and the employees would have difficulty opening this type of handle in a hurry in the dark; and 3)The exit doors did not have illuminated exit signs. Conditions exposed employees to fire and burn hazards. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter") Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to install exit signs illuminated to a surface value of at least 5 foot candles (54 lux) by a reliable light source and be distinctive in color. Self-luminous or electroluminescent signs that have a minimum luminance surface value of at least .06 foot-lamberts ((0.21 cd/m2) are permitted. Reference 1910.37(b)(6) and associated ANSI standards.
