29 CFR 1910.252(b)(2)(iii): Workers and other persons adjacent to the welding area were not required to wear appropriate goggles, to protect them from the rays when noncombustible or flameproof screens or shields were not used: (a)Steinhaus Brothers, Inc. dba SBI Manufacturing at 47061 Phillip Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57108: On or about and at times prior to August 5, 2022, the employer did not ensure employees were protected from eye exposure of injurious ultraviolet radiation from welding activities, in that welding curtains of the South central workstation in the shop area were damaged, exposing welders to adjacent flash burn hazards. This condition exposed employees to injurious ultraviolet radiation. (b)Steinhaus Brothers, Inc. dba SBI Manufacturing at 47061 Phillip Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57108: On or about and at times prior to August 5, 2022, the employer did not ensure employees were protected from eye exposure of injurious ultraviolet radiation from welding activities in that curtains of the Yaskawa Electric Corporation Motoman welding robot (Type: YR-UP50N-A0D Serial Number: RH9540-8602-1) workstation in the shop are were not used when in operation, exposing employees to flash burn hazards. This condition exposed employees to injurious ultraviolet radiation.
