1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. On or before April 18, 2019, the employer did not ensure that various equipment or machinery used at the site was effectively guarded. The unguarded equipment includes; but is not limited to, the following: a. The South bend- Nordic lathe, located in A-bldg., did not have one or more method of machine guarding to protect the operator and/or others in the immediate area from rotating parts and/or flying parts; b. The Pines tube bending machines locate in A and B-bldgs., did not have one or more method of machine guarding to protect the operator from pinch point hazards; c. The Millport milling machine located in A bldg.; was unguarded and thus exposed the operator to struck by hazards from the fly pieces of scrap metal; d. The unused portion of the blade for the Grob vertical band saw, model #7707, located in B bldg. was unguarded. Located under the work-rest, 7 inches of the blade remained exposed; potentially exposing the operator(s) to hazards created by unintentional contact with the rotating blade.
