29 CFR 1926.1053(b)(4): Ladders were used for purposes other than the purposes for which they were designed. (a) Mountain Top Homes at 4273 Spruce Way in Vail CO 81657: On August 31, 2018, the employer provided an A-frame ladder as a means of egress from a trench. The A-frame ladder was closed and leaning up against the unprotected trench wall. A-frame ladders are not a safe means of egress for a trench per 29 CFR 1926.651 (c) (2) and the ladder was not being used as intended for A-frame design. This condition exposed employees to cave-in and struck-by hazards.
