Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 006 Hazard: HEAT
Minn. Stat. 182.653 subd. 2: The employer did not furnish to each employee, conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards which caused or were likely to cause death or serious injury to employees: On Dec.15 and 16, 1997 employees were exposed to the hazards recognized in the industry, by using polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic pipe to transport compressed air in exposed plant piping throughout Kozy Heat and Minnesota Hearth Products buildings. PVC pipe was designed for the transmittal of liquids, and is dangerous when used for transmitting compressed air or gas. PVC pipe that is exposed to impact or freezing can explode, exposing employees to sharp plastic projectiles that could penetrate the skin. Air line installers recommend threaded galvanized schedule 40 pipe.ule
