29 CFR 1910.138(a): The employer did not select and require employee(s) to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands were exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasion; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. (a) On or about July 7, 2016, the employer failed to select and require employee(s) to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands were exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasion; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. Employees working throughout the facility are exposed to hazards including but not limited to; amputations and lacerations from handling sheet metal and manufactured parts, and skin exposure from spraying and handling chemical irritants including, but not limited to Elgen Water Based Liner Adhesive, Capital Hardware Elgen 100% Silicone Sealant and Adhesive, Elgen Duct Sealer, 10555 Spiral Lube QD, and OEM/Mechanical - CT10101-5 insulation material. Employees are provided with knit/cotton gloves for use in all operations. These provide no cut-resistant or chemical-resistant properties. Abatement certification is required for this item; use the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET for this purpose.
