Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 006 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards: a) On or about June 6, 2005 and at times prior Timpas Feedyard LLC did not ensure that employees were protected from fall hazards. 1. Employees doing maintenance and adjustments to the auger on the feedmill roof had no fall protection provided. 2. Employees doing maintenance work from the bucket of a front end loader were not protected from falls. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement to correct this hazard is: a) Guardrails or a fall arrest system could be installed along the roof line where the employees work on the auger. Ladders, scaffold, or manlift basket could be used for the operations where the loader bucket is used now. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").-Certification
