Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 006 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(ii): The point of operation of machines whose operation exposes an employee to injury, shall be guarded. The guarding device shall be in conformity with any appropriate standards therefor, or, in the absence of applicable specific standards, shall be so designed and constructed as to prevent the operator from having any part of his body in the danger zone during the operating cycle. (a) Eumach CNC vertical milling center, model no. LBM-1500: on or about May 11, 2015, employees were operating equipment that had multiple safety interlock devices by-passed and hazardous point-of-operation motions did not stop with access doors open. Provided safeguarding devices were not installed and configured in accordance with applicable and appropriate standards. Employees had their finger(s) and/or hand(s) exposed to hazards capable of causing amputation. (b) Finetech Machine Tool Co. CNC vertical milling center, model no. HSD-500: on or about May 11, 2015, employees were operating equipment that had a by-passed safety interlock device and hazardous point-of-operation motions did not stop with access doors open. Provided safeguarding device was not installed and configured in accordance with applicable and appropriate standards. Employees had their finger(s) and/or hand(s) exposed to hazards capable of causing amputation. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
