Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing injuries due to the 1/2 inch diameter wire rope cable hoisting line for the 12 Ton Grove Mobile Hydraulic Boom Crane not being inspected according to maintenance records dated June 17, 1991. a. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to designate a competent person who shall inspect all machinery and equipment prior to each use and during use to make sure it is in safe operating condition.
