Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 005C Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(3)(iii): Training. Employee training shall include at least: The measures employees can take to protect themselves from these hazards, including specific procedures the employer has implemented to protect employees from exposure to hazardous chemicals, such as appropriate work practices, emergency procedures, and personal protective equipment to be used. a) On or about February 21, 2017, employees investigating an ammonia leak continued attempting to access isolation valves without appropriate respiratory protection when the personal ammonia monitor was reading 35 ppm. The employer's emergency action plan requires full face cartridge respirator for employees working in areas with ammonia readings between 25 to 250 ppm. There were visible ammonia vapor clouds at the facility roof area where the employees were trying to access the valves. The employees left the area when the ammonia readings were at 110 ppm.
