Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 005B Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Seven miles north of Charleston, Arkansas: Employees working on the monkey board of an oil well rig did not have the safety lanyard line that was attached to a structural member of the money board guardrail attached to the "O" ring of his safety harness, exposing an employee on or about August 26, 2002 to a fall hazard. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: Comply with the American Petroleum Institute Pamphlet, 54, paragraph 5.4 that requires a safety belt and lanyard line to be worn by employees working 10 feet or more above ground level and the lanyard line be attached to a structural member capable of supporting a minimum dead weight of 5,480 pounds.
