Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 005B Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.179(j)(2): The following items were not inspected for defects at intervals as defined in paragraph (j)(1)(ii) of this section or as specifically indicated, including observation during operation for any defects which might appear between regular inspections: a) Steelmaking charging crane: On or about February 17, 2016, and at times prior, crane operators did not inspect for defects, and did not observe defects during operation which appeared between regular inspections, to identify and correct hazardous conditions. Not inspecting for defects, such as, but not limited to, a sheave guard in contact with a load block sheave, missing and damaged hardware, exposed the operator and workers near the crane to struck by and crushing hazards.
