29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: At an establishment located at 2099 Badgerland Drive in Green Bay, WI; the employer did not provide machine guarding to protect Rendering Operators and other employees in the machine areas from hazards such as, but not limited to: a) On or about February 8, 2023, outside of the entrance door on the east side of the Bliss Room, employees were exposed to caught-between and entanglement hazards created by the rotating screw auger of the Bucket Elevator (B.E.) #2 feeder conveyor while collecting meat and bone meal samples with a hand-held, steel measuring cup. b) On or about July 1, 2023, in the Main Room on the west end of the Small Foot conveyor discharge area, employees were exposed to caught-between and entanglement hazards created by the rotating screw auger inside of the conveyor housing while cleaning around and emptying a tote. e) On or about January 27, 2023, on the mezzanine in the Effluent Room, employees were exposed to amputation and laceration hazards created by the rotating impeller on the top of the ProMinent Sigma metering pump.
