29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc. a. Located at the Slitter 1 line: On or about March 1, 2017 and at times prior, employees were exposed to caught in and struck by hazards while operating, observing, and inspecting coil material being processed at the slitter as a result of two unguarded rotating slitter arbors and unguarded sharp moving coil material. b. Located at the Slitter 1 line: On or about March 1, 2017 and at times prior, employees were exposed to caught in and struck by hazards while accessing to and from the line operation area and observing and inspecting the material being uncoiled as a result of an unguarded rotating un-coiler mandrel and unguarded sharp moving coil material. c. Located at the Slitter 1 line: On or about March 1, 2017 and at times prior, employees were exposed to caught in and struck by hazards while operating and inspecting material being re-coiled by the re-coiler machine as a result of an unguarded ingoing nip point where the strip(s) wrapped around the processed coil and unguarded sharp moving coil material.
