29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: (a) Thermoplastics department, LG GoldStar no. 125, model no. IDE500EN: on or about November 8, 2016, employees retrieving ejected parts were exposed to machine caught-in hazards likely to result in serious injury where the clear plexiglass window (safeguard) in the sliding access door had an opening allowing entry. There is no abatement certification or documentation required for this item. (b) Compression plastic molding machines: on or about November 8, 2016, operators removing parts were exposed to crushing hazard likely to result in serious injuries where vertically moving elements at the waist level for ejection pins were not safeguarded to prevent access during operating cycle. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d). (c) Automatics 1-5: on or about November 8, 2016, operators were exposed to caught-in and crushed-under machine hazards likely to result in serious injuries where moving components were not safeguarded to prevent access during operating cycle.
