29 CFR 1910.134(a)(2): A respirator was not provided by the employer to each employee when such equipment was necessary to protect the health of the employee: a) Strip and Wash Area, on or about 12/2/15: Welders were exposed to chromium metal and its insoluble salts at 2.77 milligrams per cubic meter (mg/m3) or 2.8 times the permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 1 mg/m3 based on the 415 minute sampling period. A zero increment was included for the 65 minutes not sampled. Welders did not wear respirators. b) Strip and Wash Area, on or about 12/2/15: Welders were exposed to nickel at 1.12 milligrams per cubic meter (mg/m3) or 1.12 times the permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 1 mg/m3 based on the 415 minute sampling period. A zero increment was included for the 65 minutes not sampled. Welders did not wear respirators. c) Strip and Wash Area, on or about 12/2/15: Welders were exposed to copper fume at .19 milligrams per cubic meter (mg/m3) or 1.9 times the permissible exposure limit (PEL) of .1 mg/m3 based on the 415 minute sampling period. A zero increment was included for the 65 minutes not sampled. Welders did not wear respirators. d) Strip and Wash Area, on or about 12/2/15: Welders were exposed to iron oxide fume at 77.8 milligrams per cubic meter (mg/m3) or 7.8 times the permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 10 mg/m3 based on the 415 minute sampling period. A zero increment was included for the 65 minutes not sampled. Welders did not wear respirators. e) Strip and Wash Area, on or about 12/2/15: Welders were exposed to total dust at 95.1 milligrams per cubic meter (mg/m3) or 6.3 times the permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 15 mg/m3 based on the 415 minute sampling period. A zero increment was included for the 65 minutes not sampled. Welders did not wear respirators. Abatement documentation must be submitted.
