Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 005 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Machine guarding was not provided to protect operators and other employees from hazards created by rotating parts: (a) Shot Blast - An auger, located at floor level, carried abrasive steel shot to the bucket elevator of the Wheelabrator tumble shot blasting machine. The cover of this auger had an opening in it to allow employees to shovel steel shot from off the floor back into the auger, which exposed employees to the in-running nip points of the auger, on or about January 11, 2013. Abatement certification and documentation required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, the date and method of abatement, and state that employees and their representatives were informed of this abatement. Abatement documentation shall include documents demonstrating that abatement is complete, such as evidence of the purchase or repair of equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement or other written records.
