Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 005 Hazard: TB
Nevada Revised Statute 618.375(1): Duties of employers. Every employer shall furnish employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his or her employees: After employees tested positive for latent tuberculosis, the dentist at Just For Kids Dentistry displayed a persistent cough but was not promptly evaluated for tuberculosis. A feasible and accepted abatement method for reducing this hazard, as recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is to follow the Guidelines for Infection Control in Dental Health-Care Settings and tested promptly for tuberculosis (TB). Reference: Guidelines for Infection Control in Dental Health-Care Settings, 2003. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, MMWR 2003;52(No. RR-17):1-61. - M. Tuberculosis - Any DHCP with a persistent cough (i.e., lasting >3 weeks), especially in the presence of other signs or symptoms compatible with active TB (e.g., weight loss, night sweats, fatigue, bloody sputum, anorexia, or fever), should be evaluated promptly.
