Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:12/17/13 Location:Dust Collector Area in the Woodworking Shop/Mill Equipment:Two Enclosureless Dust Collectors Condition:Employees were exposed to dust explosion and fire hazards while working where enclosureless dust collectors operating in excess of 5,000 cfm were located inside the work area and used to collect dust with a Kst value of 24.31 bars-meters/second. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard includes complying with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 664 "Standard for the Prevention of Fires and Explosions in Wood Processing and Woodworking Facilities" as it applies to this operation and equipment including, but not limited to, performing a process analysis in accordance with Section 4.2, and ensuring that duct systems and dust collectors are installed in accordance with Chapter 8. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item.
