Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that the pendant control for the single girder underhung crane used to hold the transfer ladle at the 32 ton Ajax melting furnace had unlabeled control buttons exposing employees to splashes of molten metal if the furnace tender unintentionally moved the transfer ladle in an unintended direction during furnace pouring operations: a.Quincy Castings, Inc. located in Quincy, Ohio: On or about January 10, 2007, the employer did not ensure the pendant control buttons were properly labeled for the 5 ton single girder underhung crane used to hold the transfer ladle for the 32 ton Ajax furnace in the melt department. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure the pendant control buttons are properly labeled as to their function according to ASME B30.11-1998 "Monorails and Underhung Cranes". In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
