North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a) Facility, Shop - Inspections of the under hook lifting device, attached to the Coffing 1 Ton Underhung Jib Crane used to lift marble / granite slabs, was not being inspected as required. Reference:ANSI B30.20-1985, Section 20-1.3 Inspections, Paragraph 20-1.3.1 Inspection Classification. (a)Prior to initial use, all new, altered, modified, or repaired lifting devices shall be inspected by a designated person to ensure compliance with this standard. (b)Inspection Intervals. Inspection procedures for lifters in regular service is divided into two general classifications based upon the intervals at which inspections are to be performed. (1)Frequent inspection. (2)Periodic inspection. NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to conduct frequent and periodic inspections as required.
