Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 005 Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to shock hazards: (a)Pinneo Feedlot, Ltd. Liability Company at 32295 Highway 34, Brush, CO 80723: On or before 09/19/06, the employer did not ensure that employees were not exposed to shock hazards in the following instances: 1)The wiring to the fluorescent light in the tool room was hanging down to 80" above the floor, and was missing its outer insulation; 2)The dual 8' long fluorescent light in the tool room was missing one bulb, and the ballast was broken with exposed live parts. The light was 87" high, and had no guard to protect the lights. In addition, this light fixture was not grounded; 3)The wiring to the fluorescent light in the room above the tool room was hanging down to 76" above the floor, and was missing its outer insulation; 4)The dual 6' long fluorescent light in the tool room was 79" high, and had no guard to protect the lights; 5)The dual 6' long fluorescent light in the maintenance shop were 72" high, and had no guard to protect the lights. Conditions exposed employees to shock hazards of 120 volts. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter") Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to run approved permanent insulated wiring to the fixtures (reference 1910.305(i), and lighting fixtures, lamps, and receptacles less than 8' high shall have no exposed parts and require protection for the lights (reference 1910.305(j); the conductors shall be insulated (reference 1910.305(f); the fixtures shall be grounded (reference 1910.304(f); and associated ANSI standards.
