Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 005 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the possible dangers associated with the failure of a high pressure water valve. (a) Facility, Extrusion Press Area, Beaver Falls, PA: On or about May 16, 2003, employees were exposed to a leaking high pressure (water) valve block located underneath the metal grating at the Extrusion Press. The water pressure going through the valve is approximately 3500 psi. Employees are exposed to the possibility of a failure which could result in possible serious physical harm and/or possible death. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE MEANS TO ABATE THIS HAZARD IS TO REPAIR THE WATER VALVE BLOCK.
