Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 005 Hazard: FALLING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of fire due to unsecured acetylene cylinders falling over and damaging or breaking off the regulator causing uncontrolled release of acetylene. a) In the yard there was an unsecured acetylene cylinder being used for oxygen/acetylene cutting. This cylinder was free standing on a dirt surface. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is the use of a two cylinder hand cart/truck designed to hold and transport oxygen/acetylene cylinders while in use. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).s
