Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 005 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to burns and smoke inhalation from fires and explosions due to the use of equipment and vehicles containing incomplete exhaust systems: Brooder Barn 3 - The exhaust system on the Ford tractor was not equipped with a spark arrestor. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to mount a spark arrestor on the tractor's exhaust system. Spark arrestors are designed to prevent sources of ignition from leaving the vehicles exhaust system.
