29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc. a) Located at 150 Fourth Avenue, Mount Sterling, OH 43143: On or about November 11, 2024, the employer did not ensure employees were protected from rotating parts and pinch points of the extruder. The rubber rolls of the thermo room extruder were not guarded, allowing an employee to get their hand caught into the machine while reaching in to feed the material during production. b) Located at 150 Fourth Avenue, Mount Sterling, OH 43143: On or about November 13, 2024, the employer did not ensure employees were protected from rotating parts and pinch points in that the wind-up section of the thermo room extruder was not guarded. Employees were exposed to in-going pinch points while checking the material during production. c) Located at 150 Fourth Avenue, Mount Sterling, OH 43143: On or about November 13, 2024, the employer did not ensure employees were protected from pinch points in that the chains and sprockets on the entrance and end of the 3TB, thermoform machine. The thermoform machine was not guarded, exposing employees while feeding plastic into the machines during production. d) Located at 150 Fourth Avenue, Mount Sterling, OH 43143: On or about November 13, 2024, the employer did not ensure employees were protected from pinch points in that the feed fingers of the 3TB, 5TB, 1TA, and 6TB were not guarded, exposing employees while feeding plastic into the trim press during production.
