Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 005 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.243(b)(2):Airhose and hose connections used for conducting compressed air to utilization equipment was not designed for the pressure and service to which they were subjected. At a worksite located at 641 SE 10th Road, Lamar, Missouri 64759, employees were exposed to struck by hazards. The employer exposed the employees to these hazards by allowing them to utilize air hoses that conducted compressed air from the facility's air supply source for the purpose of cleaning. The air hoses were attached to the hose fittings by a worm drive-type hose clamp that was not designed for use on an air hose, which exposed employees to possible whipping action of the hoses if the clamps were to come off. Instances of exposure include but are not limited to: Instance 1: A hose hanging from the East wall, near the northeast corner of the facility, was attached to hose fittings by a worm drive-type hose clamp. Instance 2: A hose hanging from the West wall, near the center of the wall in the facility, was attached to hose fittings by a worm drive-type hose clamp.
