29 CFR 1910.179(n)(3)(iii)(b): During hoisting, the load contacted obstructions: a. ABC Technologies WMG USA, Inc. - Bellevue, Ohio: On or about June 27, 2024, the employer did not ensure that plastic injection machine molds being moved with the east Engineered Material Handling overhead gantry crane did not contact obstructions. Plastic injection molding machine equipment located under the east overhead crane reduced the space for handling the load with the crane, resulting in the load contacting the crane's girders when hoisting. Employees were exposed to struck-by and crushing injuries in that contact with obstructions during hoisting compromises the integrity of crane components. b. ABC Technologies WMG USA, Inc. - Bellevue, Ohio: On or about June 27, 2024, the employer did not ensure that plastic injection machine molds being moved with the west Engineered Material Handling overhead gantry crane did not contact obstructions. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence, or written records.
